A Year’s Worth of Article Ideas to Stock Your Dealership’s Blog

If you’re going to Blog to the Future for your dealership, one of the biggest challenges you’ll face is determining what content will be most useful and relevant to your audience.

Running a successful blog for your dealership takes more preparation, dedication and participation than just about any other digital marketing strategy that you have.

So how do you prepare so you can make sure you have a steady flow of content to publish to your blog?

There are two things that have helped me immensely when it comes to publishing new content for both my personal & company blogs.

1. Develop a ‘Blog First’ Mentality

As you become intentional about the blogging efforts for your dealership, you’ll start to develop what I call a ‘blog first’ mentality.

What you’ll notice happening is that as you see stories developing in and around your dealership, you’ll naturally start asking yourself “is this something I can blog about?”.

It’s hard to put in to words because for me it was something that just started happening. It’ll happen for you too, when it does, let me know.

 2. Establish an Editorial Calendar

When you start blogging for your dealership you’ll be adding a huge workload to your already staked list of duties. It’s important that you not get overwhelmed by a mountain of content that will need to be created.

Establishing an editorial calendar for the month or even year can go a long way to easing your mind so you can focus on producing the content needed for your blog.

Believe me, once you lay out your thoughts on paper, you’ll feel much more relaxed and confident about what needs to be done.

Blog Ideas to Last a Year

Here are some thought starters to help you on your way. Use these basic ideas to formulate your own blog posts and don’t forget to download one or both of these editorial calendar templates (EC1.xls | EC2.pdf).

You’ll notice that for each month there is a recurring theme of featuring an outstanding employee, what’s happening at your dealership, a vehicle in your lineup and something happening within your community.

While these items alone can keep your blog stocked with content for your reader, you’ll still want to do your own discovery and find out what’s most important to your audience and adjust as needed.

  • Nice share Jason, I’m a firm believer that dealerships should be blogging for two reasons, to drive traffic and to convince that traffic to do business with them. And by convince I’m not talking about using the blog to sell but rather to show people why they are different.

    • Thanks David, I’m with you 100%

The thing to remember is that when you blog for your dealership, you are creating content for real people, with real problems. Being authentic, relevant and helpful is a fantastic way to Blog to the Future! 🙂
